Golf began in Dornoch in the early 17th century (approximately 1616), playing in the vast junction of Dornoch. The earlier championship course was the bridging course located in Dornoch Fjord. Dornoch has a championship course ranked 5th globally and a Struie course, the 50th best link course in the UK. In addition to Royal Dornoch Golf Club, there are Golspie Golf Club, Tain Golf Club, and Bonar Bridge Golf Club.
